Meet Our Instructors
Jennifer Dunbar received her BA in Dance from Birmingham-Southern College. She taught creative movement, pre-ballet, ballet, and jazz with Children’s Dance Foundation for six years. She is a founding company member of Sans Point Modern Dance Company. Jennifer began her study of Pilates in 1999 as a way to find relief from injuries acquired form dancing and gymnastics. Her teaching background completed her Pilates certification at The Pilates Center – Boulder, Colorado in March 2004. She apprenticed under Marsha Dorman, P.T., at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Jennifer was an instructor at St. Vincent’s Hospital for two years. She opened Pilates on Highland June 6, 2005! |

Angel Davis received her BS in Accounting from the University of Alabama and her CPA certificate in 1998. Angel began taking Pilates in 2000 and received a Pilates mat certificate from PhysicalMind Institute in 2001. Angel has taught mat classes in Tuscaloosa and with the University of Alabama and the American Ballet Theatre. Angel completed her equipment certification through Core Dynamics in Santa Fe, NM as an apprentice of Pilates on Highland under Jennifer Dunbar. She is an active member of the Pilates Method Alliance. |

Holly Jason received her BS in Management Information Systems from Auburn University in 1993. After many years of sitting behind a desk all day then going to a gym to exercise out her frustrations and energy, Holly decided to leave the corporate world and pursue a career in teaching Pilates. She completed her certification in September of 2006 from The Pilates Center in Boulder, Colorado. |

Alison Page is a graduate of The Alabama School of Fine Arts, where she studied Dance under Dame Sonia Arova and Thor Sutowski. She received her BFA in Dance from the University of Arizona. She recently graduated with an MA degree in Arts Education (Dance/Theatre Emphasis) from New York University. Her professional career as a dancer/ actress includes performances with The Arizona Opera and Skyfire Theatre in Louisiana. She choreographed several regional musicals including West Side Story and The Wiz, andassisted the Dance Supervisor of The Lion King on Broadway. Alison is a Certified Pilates Mat instructor through Physical Mind Institute. She began teaching Pilates in 2003 at Our Place Studio, LA where she developed “Fit Fusion:” a class combining Standing Pilates and Brazilian Capoeira. While living in NYC she taught Pilates for several fitness centers, most notably at CRUNCH where she performed “Fat Burning Pilates” for a national advertising campaign. Upon completion of an apprenticeship at NY PILATES in Manhattan, she began teaching classes on the apparatus in 2005. Currently, Alison is very pleased to be back in Birmingham where she will be serving as an Adjunct Professor in Dance at The Alabama School of Fine Arts. |

Susan Henderson graduated from Stetson University with a degree in international relations and foreign languages. After a decade of success working for an international company in marketing and sales, Susan decided to take a year off after the birth of her daughter to become a stay at home mom. While searching for a gentler way to exercise to get back in shape and to alleviate lower back pain, she discovered Pilates and found the path to her second career! Susan has seen first hand how Pilates can drastically improve the mind, body and spirit. This is why she is continuing to study and teach Pilates so that she may pass on her knowledge and help others gain a better quality and enjoyment of life. Susan completed the mat teacher training program with Power Pilates in January of 2007. She then graduated from the highly regarded teacher training program at The Pilates Center in Boulder, Colorado in January of 2009. |

Therese Laeger received her Bachelor of Arts in Dance Arts Management from Birmingham Southern College. She danced professionally with the original Birmingham Ballet, Cleveland Ballet, Ballet Alabama and State of Alabama Ballet, performing soloist and principal roles. She served on the dance faculty of the Alabama School of Fine Arts and was Ballet Mistress/ Assistant to the Directors for the Alabama Ballet with Dame Sonia Arova and Choreographer Thor Sutowski. From 1996 - 2007, she was Dance Chair at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. With Pilates, she finds a continuation of the healthy training she found as a dancer under Arova and Sutowski. In the summer of 2007, she decided to study seriously. She was accepted into the teachers training program at The Pilates Center - Boulder, Colorado in 2008. She finds that the exercises that support breath and movement, centering the mind, body and spirit, is a familiar way of moving. She would like to share this valuable, holistic knowledge in the training of dancers and with others who seek a program that strengthens and supports enjoyment of life. She is Artistic Associate of The AROVA Contemporary Ballet, continuing the heritage of Dame Sonia Arova and supporting new and engaging choreographies.

Kelly Pearce received her BS in Food Science and Human Nutrition from University of Florida and continued her education at Auburn University where she completed her MS degree. After working as a licensed clinical dietitian, Kelly decided to inspire others to achieve a healthier and active lifestyle by incorporating Pilates. Today, through both knowledge of nutrition and Pilates, Kelly enables her clients to explore an array of healthy lifestyle choices and make positive changes in mind, body, and spirit. Kelly is the first graduate of the Pilates on Highland Teacher Training Program. She apprenticed under Jennifer Dunbar, owner of Birmingham, Alabama's Pilates on Highland, where she experienced classes and lectures from every member of the accomplished staff while completing a 900 hour training program. As a 2010 graduate, Kelly is the newest member of the POH staff.
